Communication Friendly Fun Day

Yesterday the Shropshire and Hereford Makaton Tutors ran an event in Shrewsbury at The Links Cafe.

The Links Cafe is a fantastic little cafe run by a speech and language therapist and a specialist teacher. They offer work experience to local people that may otherwise find it difficult to access these opportunities, for example due to a learning disability or difficulty or a mental health issue.

Myself and some of the other tutors in the area had been wanting to hold such an event for sometime and we finally got it off the ground! There were loads of accessible activities for both children and adults with communication needs. They had loads of fun making ‘grass heads’, playing Makaton bingo, guessing the object and playing MyChoicePad games to name just a few! The cakes and drinks were delicious – thanks Heather and gang! We had some great prizes donated for the raffle from some very generous local businesses – I think the folks from Condover College won quite a few of those!

We were so pleased that the people who attended enjoyed it and we definitely want to do something similar next year so watch this space…
